Task 2a: Reflective Practice
When I was first given this module, and had my first set of
tasks, I was very confused as I wasn’t a hundred per cent sure of exactly what I
had to do and was very confused of how the blogging system worked. I remember
at the first campus session I attended a
few people who had already started the course before, explained that when they
were first given the module they wasn’t too sure of what to do either, but they
said the best thing was to just get on with the tasks and you will eventually
understand more. I found this advice
helped me a lot however I am still finding the blogging system a bit confusing.
Looking back at the first module, where we had to look at
technologies as “tools” and how we used them to enhance our career, I found
this very interesting as I was using many of these tools already but didn’t
understand how much of an impact they were already having on my career as a
dancer/choreographer, and also how much of an impact it will have on my future
the more we use these tools and the more these tools progress.
At the moment I am finding the course very difficult to fit
into my hectic lifestyle. I am teaching, performing and choreographing a lot and
am finding it hard to make time each day to fit this work in. However I have
started to bring my work into the dance studio with me, which provides me with
more time. I also set myself small tasks I can do whilst travelling on trains,
busses and even planes.
This course has so far helped me understand the power of technology
and for me to be continuously successful I have to move and adapt with
technology. I am finding my organisation and time management skills are progressing
as to fit this course into my lifestyle and pursue it to the best of my ability.
These skills will be needed even more so in the future when hopefully I am
dealing with even more international workshops and setting up my own events
etc.
I am looking forward in seeing how this journal helps me through
the course and my practice. I usually use dance as a way of expressing my
thoughts and feelings either through choreography or improvisation. When I’m
dancing I feel I am getting certain feelings and thoughts off my chest even
though no one is there to see or hear them apart from myself. This journal
already seems to be having the same affect; however I find it easier to dance
how I feel than to write, as sometimes I can’t find the right word to describe
exactly how I feel.
(To be continued...)
Thanks Liam - recording your experiences as a part of the course is a way of developing both strategies for continued professional development as well as practicing the skills you will need to undertake practitioner research within your inquiry..it really works but does take time - the way you use this device will be a part of what makes your professional practice the same and different that other professionals. It sounded like when I talked to you that a lot of thinking does go on - in between jobs and journeys - and the idea is to capture those thoughts
