Task 3C. Sources of Information
Here, I have had to take a step back from my practice to
explore what methods I use to search, organise, and gather criteria and the
knowledge I gain through my experiences that consequently enable me to develop
my practice.
YouTube
This is one source I have referred to constantly through-out
my journal. I am able to use YouTube to keep up-to-date with how dance is
evolving in other countries around the world so that my practice isn’t
dated. This is essential to my career as, If my
choreography is seen as “old” or “out dated” then I will be less employable as
dancers also want to keep updated and learn choreography that is up to date and
“with the times”. Through this course I
have realised that you are also able to watch videos that enable you to learn
things step by step, for example when emailing my tutor Paula Nottingham she
sent me a link to the “Bapp YouTube” for video advice.
Diary
Every Morning, or sometimes the night before, I open my
diary to plan a productive day, week or month.
Here I write a big “To Do List” and aim to get each task completed by
the end of the day. I believe this is one of the most important methods to my
success within my career so far. My diary enables me to organise and prevents
me from making mistakes that could have a huge negative impact of career. It
also reduces anxiety as any tasks big or small I am able to write down and look
at whenever I feel the need to, so that I don’t forget any jobs or tasks I need
to do.
Journal
My journal I use to explain and analyse the experiences
within my diary. Within my journal I find out what are my strengths and
weaknesses and analyse how I can improve as a person and within my practice. As
all this information is gathered in book, I am able to look back at previous
experiences and remember also what worked and what didn’t. I find this method
very useful and usually look up certain experiences when I am aware that they
are going to come up again. This enables me to be more prepared and also more
confident within these experiences.
Google
Especially since being on this course I have found Google an
extremely useful tool to enable me to complete this course accurately and to
the best of my ability. Google leads me to websites that enable me to research
information of nearly any kind. As soon as I see a word, theory, task that I
don’t understand I enter a question or keywords into Google, so that I am able
to further my knowledge in a topic, and as a result of this my answer will be
more precise.
Friends
I feel very lucky
that some of my friends are also my work colleagues. Some of these friends hold different
information and knowledge to me as, even though we are trying to achieve the
same or similar goals we have been on a totally different journey, dancing and
performing with different people and also learning from different teachers. This
means that they will carry knowledge that I am not aware of and can learn a lot
from and vice-versa. With my friends/colleagues we also work together to
provide each other opportunities, to enhance both our careers. So here we can
see how much of an impact my friends have on my career as they are my tool for
information and also provide me with opportunities. I believe this again goes
back to social networking and the impact it can have.
I am now going to look into these 5 points and see how I can
advance on them to further my success. Furthermore I will look deeper to try
and discover even more methods that I have used within my experiences so far,
to see what else has enabled me to develop my practice.
